Will Biden promote the Uyghurs for an empty Chinese language local weather deal? – Watts up with that?
Guest essay by Eric Worrall
Back in 1979, when Biden was negotiating a nuclear weapons treaty with the Soviets, he allegedly told the Soviets that his human rights speech was just a show to please voters back home.

It turns out that Mr Biden has long downplayed human rights in private diplomatic meetings while mouthing public support. His message to China’s Xi – that the US human rights talks should fulfill a “political imperative” of voters at home – is almost identical to what he said to the Soviet leaders as a senator who visited Moscow in 1979.
“The delegation did not officially raise the issue of human rights during the negotiations. Biden said they did not want to “spoil the atmosphere with problems that inevitably create suspicion in our relationships”. For example, Vadim Zagladin, deputy head of the international department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, recorded in an internal memo after meeting US senators in Moscow in April 1979. The memo, which was archived at the Gorbachev Foundation after the Cold War, was translated by an earlier in 2008, the Soviet political prisoner Vladimir Bukovsky and the author Pavel Stroilov.
The memo continued: “In the breaks between sessions, the senators sent us several letters about this or that ‘objector’. “Jewish activists denied the right to emigrate from the Soviet Union. “Unofficially, Biden and [Senator Richard] Lugar said that at the end of the day They were less concerned with solving a problem for this or that citizen than with showing the American public that they stand up for “human rights”. They have to prove to their constituents that they are “effectively fulfilling their wishes”. “

The Soviet communists, of course, treated the arms treaty and peace agreements with which Biden was negotiating like a piece of toilet paper. In December 1979, Brezhnev ordered the 40th Soviet Army to cross the border and occupy the Afghan capital, Kabul, which marked the first step in the Soviet war in Afghanistan.
I admit it is possible the Wall Street Journal misunderstood the facts. I did not see the original documents, which are said to be from archives restored after the fall of the Soviet Union. Or maybe Biden learned his lesson, 1979 was a long time ago.
But given all the rhetoric from Biden and Kerry that climate change is an existential crisis, and Biden’s supposed human rights track record during the Soviet era, his supposed willingness to sell Soviet dissidents, and his supposed willingness to get the American public into the I am not misleading I do not believe that China, which is detaining entire ethnic groups in alleged rape camps, will stand in the way of Biden’s efforts to negotiate a comprehensive Sino-US climate deal.
