Warming of the winters within the Alps “not important”… “wonderful distinction between official measurements and public opinion” – is that true?

The temperature data from 12 mountain stations in the European Alps show no warming in winter for over 30 years, which contradicts alarmist claims.

The Austrian research skeptic Günther Aigner examined 12 mountain stations in the Alps in Switzerland, Germany and Austria to find out how winter temperatures have developed over the last 50 years.

“Slight increase of only 0.7 ° C” … “not statistically significant.”

With an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent, Aigner is presenting its results in English for the first time:

Winter temperature trends are of great importance for the multi-billion dollar ski industry in the Alps. Therefore, reliable data is essential for future planning.

According to global warming alarmists, skiing in the Alps should be over by now and the Arctic should be ice-free in summer. But they haven’t – and Aigner explains why.

The winter temperature dropped from the early 1990s to 2010

If one looks at the very reliable winter data from the Swiss, German and Austrian weather services, which were carefully recorded at these stations, there has been only slight warming since 1971.

The mean anomalies of the winter temperature for the 12 mountain stations are shown. The green curve is the running 10-year average, the white dashed line is the linear trend line.

Reality versus Public Perception

“There is an amazing contrast between official measurements and public opinion,” says Aigner. “The linear trend shows a slight increase of only 0.7 ° C – which is not statistically significant.”

No winter climb in 30 years

And if we don’t take into account the cold spell of the 1970s, there has been no warming in the last 30 years. As Aigner emphasizes, the average winter temperature for the 12 mountain stations fell by around 2 ° C from around 1992 to 2011.

So it can’t just be CO2 that rules the show.

In the end, Aigner implies that nobody really has to worry that skiing will soon end in the Alps. The warming that the Alps have experienced in recent decades mainly took place in the summer and spring months, the video recalls.
