Swiss voters reject important climate change measures
Swiss policy on combating climate change has been called into question after voters rejected important measures in a referendum.
In a referendum, voters narrowly rejected the government’s plans to impose a fuel levy on cars and a tax on airline tickets.
The measures should help Switzerland achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Many voters appear to have been concerned about the economic impact as the country tries to recover from Covid-19.
Opponents also pointed out that Switzerland was only responsible for 0.1% of global emissions and expressed doubts that such a policy would help the environment.
The vote within the Swiss system of direct democracy was 51% against and 49% in favor.

The insolence of these Swiss peasant voters who thwarted the carefully orchestrated plans of their leaders.
Undoubtedly a vigorous public climate propaganda campaign already on the launch pad to ensure that the next time voters are offered the opportunity to approve their government, they do not cause international embarrassment.
