SINGAPORE – Asia Pacific stocks are likely to open on Wednesday as some markets in the region have closed for public holidays.
Futures indicated a lower open for Japanese stocks. The Chicago Nikkei futures contract was 28,120 while its Osaka counterpart was 28,090. This is compared to the Nikkei 225’s last closing price at 28,406.84.
Australian stocks were also off to a negative start. The SPI futures contract was 6,982 compared to the last closing price of the S & P / ASX 200 at 7,066.
In terms of corporate development, Singapore Airlines will announce full year results on Wednesday.
The markets in Hong Kong and South Korea are closed on Wednesday for public holidays.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 267.13 points to 34,060.66 while the S&P 500 was down 0.85% to close at 4,127.83. The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.56% to 13,303.64.
Currencies
The US dollar index, which tracks the greenback versus a basket of its peers, hit 89.750 after falling over 90 recently.
The Japanese yen was trading at 108.92 per dollar after rising above 109 against the greenback yesterday. The Australian dollar was trading at $ 0.7795, up from $ 0.774 earlier this week.
