BEIJING, Jan 18 (Reuters). China’s coal production rose to its highest level since 2015 last year, despite Beijing promising climate change to cut dirty fossil fuel consumption and months of disruption to major coal mining centers.
The world’s largest miner and consumer produced 3.84 billion tons of coal in 2020, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Monday.
China’s coal production declined after peaking at 3.97 billion tons in 2013 when Beijing cut down on excessive mining capacity and encouraged the consumption of clean energy. Production is rising, however, amid increasing industrial demand and an unofficial restriction on coal imports to prop up the domestic mining industry.

No doubt this is a temporary aberration, isn’t it? I am sure that once global warming removes the ice from China’s wind turbines, they can reduce their coal use.
