This week it got real my friends.

When I began renewing my fitness vows, it was the middle of the vacation. So I could do my training whenever I wanted. If I slept, hung around a bit, and didn’t come to my workout until the morning, it didn’t really matter.

What’s more, if I needed a little more recovery time for example, it was cool. What else did I do?

Watch more football?

Another true crime marathon?

The Shawshank Redemption for the 987th time?

Well, on this Monday after the New Year, things have certainly changed. The alarm clock rang at an ungodly hour and I had no time to sleep. I had a strictly defined training window that quickly closed.

I had to take my daughter to school. That meant I needed my workout, my shower, and all of the pre-school things that I’m responsible for, long before my kid’s bell opened, which is, um, early.

Then after my daughter was dropped off, she went back to the house to do my job.

Trust me, it was difficult the first few days. I couldn’t sacrifice training, and the other early morning stuff was non-negotiable. Since I’m not a fan of night training, I had to adjust to this new, slightly painful new normal.

But I’ve learned something important about myself: I can do it.

At the same time, I’ve tried to expand my training repertoire a little, as I’m clearly a glutton for punishment. The Peloton bike is awesome and I love it, but I felt like I needed to research some of the other things so I could get a well-rounded workout. I’ve tried some strength training classes and some other cardio classes. (To my blogger colleague Bill Kimm: Warning, I’m serious about this exercise!)
