Mark has a couple of challenges forward of him

This post appears as part of our Healthier 2021 series, following three WebMD team members as they strive to improve their health this year. You can follow their travels here.

That’s why I decided earlier this week to improve my yoga game and learn a new pose called Chaturanga. (I can hear all the yogis say, “Oooooooooooh.”)

Basically, it’s like starting a push-up from the floor, stopping halfway through, and holding it.

Sounds easy – and it is – for about 3 seconds. After that, your body realizes what it is doing, you start shaking like a leaf, and when you are like me you quickly go to the ground again with a little humiliation.

So yes, more core training courses will follow!

Despite this challenge, after almost two months on this fitness journey, I cannot say that I have a lot of complaints. I feel better. My clothes fit better. In all honesty, I’m pretty sure my family likes me a little better too.

I even learned what an Instagram takeover is thanks to our great WebMD social media team. Ask your children. You probably know.

When you get an industry leading website to blog about your fitness journey for a few months so that you have no choice but to take a fitness journey, I highly recommend it.

But friends, next month we’re going to find out what I’m really made of.

My daughter’s travel softball season is about to begin. Unlike when I was a kid, youth athletics in 2021 is often quite an obligation. When my child has a tournament, we are in the stadium on Saturday from sunrise to approx. 0-dark-30, then again from sunrise to 0-dusk-30 on Sunday.

This presents me with a number of challenges. For one thing, it messes up my training plan. I like to train in the morning because, to the chagrin of my wife and daughter, I am a morning person. (Seriously, they really hate this.)

And when I work out at night, for some reason I can’t sleep. For spring and summer, it looks like my early morning workouts will be even earlier.
