Half of Individuals blame Trump and Republicans for the January 6 assault on the Capitol

Other notable results from this month’s survey include:

  • 39% of Americans believe Donald Trump’s claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him; 80% of Republicans believe this lie, and 81% of frequent Fox News viewers believe it.
  • 96% of Americans believe that school history classes should teach about slavery in the United States; 55% believe it should be taught as the main topic.
  • 75% of Americans believe that history classes in the United States should teach about racism; 44% think it should be taught as the main topic.
  • 68% of Americans think it is very important that children be vaccinated against diseases other than COVID-19.
  • Less than half of Republicans (47%) consider it very important that children be vaccinated against diseases other than COVID-19.

Other topics examined include concerns about the COVID-19 delta variant, attitudes towards critical race theory, and viewership on Fox News, Newsmax, One American News Network and MSNBC.

The results of this poll show that Americans still want justice for the Trump-provoked attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

This month’s poll also provides strong evidence that frequent Fox News viewers are deeply disconnected from mainstream Americans. Although half of Americans believe Donald Trump and the Republicans were responsible for the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, only 7% of frequent Fox viewers consider them guilty. Only 13% of frequent Fox News viewers think anyone who broke into the Capitol that day should be arrested, up from 51% of Americans overall.
