Finish J&J vaccine pause however add warning

April 23, 2021 – Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine should be resumed in the United States for all adults. A CDC advisory body voted on Friday afternoon.

The vote was 10-4 with one abstention. The decisions also contain instructions for a warning to be added to the vaccine vials. It is aimed at women under the age of 50 who are at an increased risk of a rare but serious blood clot disorder called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS).

As of April 21, 15 cases of TTS, all in women and 13 in women under the age of 50, were confirmed under 7.98 million doses of the J&J vaccine administered in the US. Three women died.

The FDA and CDC recommended the break on April 13 after reports that 6 women developed a rare bleeding disorder 6 to 13 days after receiving the J&J vaccine.
