Fairly a lot of reactions to the impeachment course of within the Senate

The 43 (full list here) will not be fondly remembered.

x

To quote a friend, “Today tells me there are 43 Republicans and 57 Americans in the US Senate.”

– Laura Anne Gilman (@LAGilman) February 13, 2021

x

Officer Goodman risked his life.

The 43 wouldn’t risk criticism from Fox News.

– Kurt “Masks save lives” Eichenwald (@kurteichenwald) February 13, 2021

The precedent is worrying.

x

43 Senate Republicans have endorsed the idea that a president can do anything in his final month in office without incurring consequences.

It is hard to overstate what a dangerous precedent this is.

– Robert Reich (@RBReich), February 13, 2021

x

Today the Senate minority was large enough to set a precedent in which presidents could send hordes of enthusiastic supporters to attack the Capitol and commit murder in order to overthrow the result of a valid national election.

– Walter Shaub (@waltshaub), February 13, 2021

x

Not only is acquittal a confirmation of Trump’s efforts to overthrow the election and bring himself to power, but it is also an invitation for him or someone else to try again.

– Adam Serwer @ (@AdamSerwer), February 13, 2021

The cowardice of the GOP is palpable.

x

If Trump had instigated two white nationalist riots, would that have been enough for Republicans to find their spine? What about four? Seven? What’s the number here?

– Citizens (@Public_Citizen) February 13, 2021

x

43 Cowards have put a man and their own political ambition before the Constitution, the rule of law and our democracy. Apparently there is no too little depravity for them.

– Rep. Gerry Connolly (@GerryConnolly) Feb 13, 2021

It is noteworthy that so few Republicans put their country first.

x

It is really sad and dangerous that only 7 Republicans voted to condemn a president who promotes a big lie, conspiracy theories and violence and is aggressively trying to destroy American democracy.

– Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) February 13, 2021

But some came forward and did what was right. Remember, Senator Mitt Romney was the first to vote in Trump’s first impeachment to indict a president of his own party. So the seven are also important.

x

This trial proved Trump’s high crimes against the Constitution. Forty-three senators put Trump first and failed the test of history. But history was also made with the largest bipartisan majority ever to vote for a president’s condemnation. The rest of the story is ours.

– Senator Chris Van Hollen (@ChrisVanHollen) February 13, 2021

x

Donald Trump instigated a lot of local terrorists to attack our Capitol and overthrow the elections. Even 7 Republicans in the Senate couldn’t stand his uprising. Our democracy must be stronger than the former president and the 43 senators who stood up for him today.

– Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) February 13, 2021

Unfortunately they are the minority within their own party.

x

Well that was a waste of time.

Let’s get back to work.

– Senate Republicans (@SenateGOP) February 13, 2021

x

The property managers did a great job proving Trump’s guilt. The Republicans have done a great job proving that they don’t care.

– Irishrygirl (@irishrygirl) February 13, 2021

x

Republicans go great because they can simply refuse to take the government seriously and plaster the works, and everyone blames the Democrats for it.

– Joshua Holland (@JoshuaHol) February 13, 2021

How can the Democrats ever work with these obstructive cowards answering a man?

x

Five years ago, Republican senators warned what would happen to their party if Trump became their candidate.

5 years later, Trump tried to dismiss the results of an election and provoked an attack on our government.

And well over half of the Senate Republicans chose to condone it.

– Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) February 13, 2021

x

Republicans: If you call witnesses, we’re going to get in Congress, you’ll never get anywhere.

Democrats: Good. No witnesses. You win.

R:

D:

R: Just kidding. We’re going to hinder Congress anyway and you will never get anything done! Ha hah! In possession!

D: rats!

– Stonekettle (@Stonekettle) February 13, 2021

The demands to kill the filibuster could never be louder than now.

x

The danger of having Republicans in government is obvious.

– Secret Agent Number Six (@DesignationSix) February 13, 2021

x

Even an armed insurgency is not enough to convince 10 Republicans to be bipartisan. So nuke the filibuster and let’s get to work.

– Brian Tyler Cohen (@briantylercohen) February 13, 2021

x

If 7 Republicans vote the most to condemn a man who instigated a mob that threatened their life – where the hell do people think 10 GOP votes will get anything on Biden’s agenda?

We have to get rid of the filibuster.

There is no other way forward.

– Kai Newkirk (@kai_newkirk), February 13, 2021

x

To: President Joseph Biden
From: Any American who saw what the GOP did today

Forget about unity. Forget about non-partisanship. Forget about compromise. This is Trump’s mob. Get rid of the filibuster and do whatever America needs now.

– Robert Reich (@RBReich), February 13, 2021

Beyond the filibuster, people are happy.

x

Republicans have no conscience.

Do you remember 2022.

Pass on.

– Chip Franklin InsideTheBeltway.com (@chipfranklin) February 13, 2021

x

The big impeachment winner is Biden. In 3 days he divided the Republicans, destroyed Mitch McConnell, and gained tremendous moral authority

Failure to judge will be an albatross around the Republicans’ necks. Not least because Trump is not gone

– Andrew Adonis (@Andrew_Adonis) February 13, 2021

x

People who say this overlook how Republicans are already working to prevent the next election. They think you will beat them in the elections because the Americans are outraged but not trying to win the elections. It will be a raw takeover with more political violence https://t.co/THxRNPIejT

– Unite in justice for the poor and the oppressed (@BreeNewsome) on February 13th, 2021

x

Okay, the senate trial is over. Republicans are traitors.

Time for law and order to take over. DOJ, SDNY, DC and NDVA … what do you have ???

Bring it NOW!

– Kimberley Johnson (@AuthorKimberley) February 13, 2021

Then there was the limerick.

x

Republicans who make their choice
Finished off, quickly acquitting him.
You don’t have a fight;
You kneel by his boot;
You want to keep licking.

– Limericking (@Limericking) February 13, 2021

Feel free to share reactions that appeal to you in the comments or even on your own tweets.

Anger. Anger. Disgust. That’s the mood.

Republicans are not going to hold members of their own party accountable, so we have to. Now enter $ 1 on each of these six Senate Democratic candidates to convert the Republican Senate seats from red to blue in 2022.
