Dems advance calculation to make various Nevada the primary presidential code instead of the whiter states
Nevada Congregation spokesman Jason Frierson (D).
Assembly Democrats handed over an invoice along the party lines in a committee that aims make Nevada the first state in the presidential nomination competitions while improving electoral access.
The measure would abolish the state’s existing caucus format and replace it with a primary format with 10 days early voting and same-day voter registration. It would also move the date to the first Tuesday in February to oust Iowa and New Hampshire as the first competition.
This step could start a race among other states to move their primaries up on the calendar, and it is unclear whether national party organizations will allow Nevada to make this change without incurring any penalties. Proponents, however, argue that Nevada’s diverse population is more a reflection of the Democratic Party and the country as a whole, which gives it a better claim to first place than the starkly white Iowa or New Hampshire.
