Jan 29, 20201 – A professor in the UK says he is finding more COVID-19 patients reporting oral problems such as tongue discoloration and enlargement.
“To see more and more Covid tongues and strange mouth ulcers. If you have a strange symptom, or just headache and fatigue, stay home! “Tweeted Tim Spector, Professor of Genetic Epidemiology at King’s College London, which contained one of the many tongue-in-cheek photos he receives daily.
“My post every morning is full of tongues from people who had tongue problems that coincided with Covid symptoms like fever and fatigue – but amazed doctors. We are happy to share so that we can all become experts… ”he tweeted.
He said that 35% of people have non-classic symptoms of COVID in the first 3 days, such as “rashes, covid toes and the 20+ symptoms of covid that are ignored”.
The CDC does not list swollen or discolored tongues as symptoms of COVID-19, but the list of symptoms has grown since the pandemic began.
“That is consistent with all of the things about COVID. When it came on stage, as I figuratively say, we opened our medical textbooks to COVID and there were just blank pages, ”said Dr. William Schaffner, professor of infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical School in Nashville, according to NBC News.
“We have since filled in the blank lickety-split pages and it may well be part of the clinical syndrome some patients suffer from.”
NBC News said a study of Spanish COVID patients found that just over 10% had an oral problem, such as a swollen tongue or mouth ulcer.
