CBP saw a decrease in trading volume in FY2020 as a result of the COVID-10 pandemic, with the entry summary volume declining 8 percent compared to FY2019 data. The largest decreases were seen in the third quarter of the fiscal year, from April through June, when the volume of the entry summary fell nearly 20 percent. CBP was also confiscated in the 2020 financial year a large number of counterfeit, unapproved, or otherwise inferior COVID-19 products that threatened the health and safety of American consumers. These seizures included 177,356 COVID-19 test kits banned by the Food and Drug Administration in 378 incidents; 12,706,390 counterfeit face masks in 352 cases; a 38,098 Food and Drug Administration banned chloroquine tablets in 221 cases. Over half of these seizures, 53 percent, occurred in the express shipping environment. 24 percent were discovered in incoming emails, and Around 51 percent came from China. CBP also worked with government agencies to expedite medical supplies and personal protective equipment through the customs clearance process while identifying and intercepting fraudulent, unauthorized, or otherwise inferior material.
