Andy Biggs needs help for the January sixth rebellion a requirement to be a Republican
As CNN reports, Biggs wrote a letter for McCarthy insisting, among other things, that the people who were walking around the halls to the chants of “Mike Pence” openly demanding the execution of Nancy Pelosi weren’t really on you Uprising were involved. This is far from the first time: Back in May, Biggs insisted that the invasion could not be distinguished from a “normal tourist visit”. He was accompanied by Rep. Paul Gosar, who ruled that even the investigation into the attack which injured over 100 Capitol and Metro DC police officers was simply “molesting peaceful patriots”.
In his letter, Biggs says that when Cheney and Kinzinger agreed to join the Committee to Investigate the Causes and Details of the 6th, they will attend Republican strategy meetings. and Biggs wants these strategy meetings to be closed for a very specific reason: it will likely be the subject of future meetings.
As Arizona Central reported just days after the January 6th events, the man who ran the nationwide series of “Stop the Steal” rallies, including the 5th event, came up with the idea of using that day for the vote count to block the electoral college:
“I was the person who came up with the Jan. 6 idea, with Congressman Gosar, Congressman Mo Brooks, and then Congressman Andy Biggs,” said Alexander. “The four of us are determined to put maximum pressure on Congress while they are voting so that we can change the hearts and minds of Republicans who hear our loud roaring from the outside inside this body.”
The connection between this group of Republican officials and the people who not only planned the January 6th events but also tried to intimidate election workers in several states has been known for some time. By no coincidence, Biggs, Gosar, and Brooks were specifically included on the list of people whose January 6 phone records are sought by the House Committee.
Some of those on the list – such as McCarthy, Rep. Jim Jordan, and Rep. Matt Gaetz – were picked because they were known to have phoned Trump during the attack on the Capitol and asked him to withdraw his forces. These calls are direct evidence that Republicans understood from the moment it happened that the attacks were carried out by Trump supporters and that those supporters were under Trump’s direct control.
But Biggs, Gosar, and Brooks’ records – along with a few others on the list like Rep. Madison Cawthorn and Rep. Lauren Boebert – Wanted for a different reason. These representatives are suspected of communicating directly not only with Trump or people in his circle, but also with those who are directly involved in the uprising. Among other things, there are suspicions that insurgents have been provided with information advising them on the best route to traverse the Capitol and possibly direct information on where to find Pelosi, Pence, or other potential victims of the mob.
In short, Biggs wants Cheney and Kinzinger kicked out of the Republican conference for wanting to be able to save his own treasonous skin without anyone with a possible interest in justice listening. Biggs also hopes to demean the bipartisan nature of the committee by brushing aside the only Republicans on the committee. If this looks like the individuals charged with a crime are trying to undermine the evidence gathering and crime assessment process, that is exactly what it is.
In doing so, Biggs makes his embrace of both insurgents and insurgents a test of what it means to be a Republican. And the amazing thing about this request to send the whole group down a riotous rabbit hole is that he’ll likely get it.
