Consultants are calling for a 3rd vaccination for immunocompromised vaccines, vaccines for pregnant girls, however some are nonetheless being refused

The daily average of COVID-19 cases on August 15 was 130,808, which is about 64% more than 14 days earlier, and the number of deaths related to the virus was 662 on August 15, an increase of 113 % from two weeks earlier, the New York Times reported in statewide reports. Only about 50% of Americans are now fully vaccinated.

Kristen McMullen was pregnant when she was hospitalized on July 21 after contracting the virus and diagnosing pneumonia in Florida, NBC News reported. Even after being sent home, she returned to the hospital on July 26, gave birth to her daughter by caesarean section the next day, and was put on a ventilator. She died on August 6, reported NBC News. “She never got sick, and we assumed, like many people, that this would go away as quickly as it came,” McMullen’s uncle James Syverson told the news channel. “Because with many younger people – she was only 30 years old – she bubbled through the air and took control of life again.”

The Syversons wouldn’t tell NBC whether McMullen was vaccinated, and until recently, pregnant women were largely left to their own devices and their doctors’ recommendations as to whether or not to get vaccinated. B.ut the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encouraged pregnant women to get vaccinated against the virus in newly published guidelines on Wednesday.

“This week we are taking two important steps to promote and improve vaccination protection for Americans,” CDC director Rochelle Walensky said in a video statement last week. “First of all, for pregnant women who are at a higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, we are strengthening our guidelines and recommend all pregnant women or people who are thinking of becoming pregnant to get vaccinated.”

Walensky too signed the CDC recommendation on Friday advocating the use of an additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccine “for people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems after an initial two-dose series of vaccinations.” She said in her statement:

”This official CDC recommendation – following the FDA’s decision to amend emergency vaccine approvals – is an important step in ensuring that everyone, including those most susceptible to COVID-19, has as much protection from COVID-19 as possible – Vaccination can get.

New data suggests that some people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems do not always build the same level of immunity as people who are not immunocompromised. The CDC’s recommendation includes people with a range of medical conditions, such as recipients of organ or stem cell transplants, people with advanced or untreated HIV infection, active recipients of cancer treatment, people taking drugs that weaken the immune system, and others. The additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine should be the same vaccine as the first vaccination series and should be given at least four weeks after completion of a primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series. While vaccination is likely to increase protection in this population group, people with immunodeficiency should continue to follow after vaccination electricity Preventive measures (including wearing a mask, 6 feet away from others they do not live with and avoid crowds and poorly ventilated indoor spaces) to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19 until your health care provider recommends otherwise. At a time when the Delta variant is on the rise, an extra dose of vaccine for some people with compromised immune systems could help prevent serious and potentially life-threatening cases of COVID-19 in this population group.

While some health and government officials are promoting the recommendation that those with compromised immune systems seek a third vaccination, they still have an uphill battle to convince the general population to get their first doses of the vaccine. Louisiana’s Governor Edwards has repeatedly urged voters to get vaccinated and wear masks. “Today I am reinstating the Louisiana statewide mask mandate indoors for all people ages 5 and up as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to rise across Louisiana and threaten the ability of hospitals to provide care, ”announced the governor Dec. In response, protesters like those in St Tammany Parish, which has reported the fifth highest number of COVID-19 cases in the state, have criticized local and state officials. Jonathan Koeppel, a former community teacher who was fired for refusing to wear a mask, said, according to Nola.com, “People are literally stealing our freedoms and they are doing it in the name of public safety.” State Representative Danny McCormick boasted that he had a five hour drive to join protesters to fight for their rights and kill others. “Freedom is the opposite of discrimination,” he said.
