Dominion is suing Newsmax, One America Information, over the proliferation of unsubstantiated election lies for 2020
The court records argue that the two right-wing outlets falsely claimed that Dominion voting machines turned Trump votes on Biden and that Byrne repeatedly lied about his machines manipulating vote counts in Biden’s favor. Each of the defamation suits seeks $ 1.6 billion in damages.
“Newsmax has helped create and cultivate an alternate reality where up is down, pigs have wings and Dominion was involved in a colossal scam to steal the presidency from Donald Trump by rigging the vote,” it said in the lawsuit against Newsmax.
Neither federal nor state election officials found any evidence of vote manipulation by Dominion or any other entity in 2020. Official exams and hand counts have consistently confirmed machine vote counts.
Both right-wing media outlets carried out some cleanup after the election after being sued by a Dominion employee who was forced to go into hiding after receiving death threats related to the fake coverage. Newsmax apologized to the Dominion representative and returned some of its allegations. One America News has stated that it doesn’t necessarily endorse claims about Dominion.
Dominion had already filed four other defamation lawsuits that are based on Fox News, Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, and MyPillow Inc. CEO Mike Lindell and his company.
Dominion is one of two voting companies filing defamation lawsuits. Smartmatic has also sued Giuliani and Fox News.
